Communities for Families

KEEPING FAMILIES TOGETHER

Our Communities for Families (CFF) program works to keep children out of foster care.

CFF achieves this by identifying and mitigating risk factors, ultimately strengthening families and helping them stay together.

HOW IT WORKS

Over a six to nine month period, DC127 walks alongside families to work on a plan toward stability.

We connect families to a caring volunteer team that works with the family during the program, acting as a support system and trusted friend. We assist parents with three self-stated goals to ensure every parent has access to the resources required to effectively care for their child or children.

This program results in stronger parents, decreased feelings of isolation, increased access to resources and life skills training, and ultimately safer homes for children.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the CFF program, you must live in Washington, DC, be the parent or guardian of minors, and have experienced one or more risk factors that would result in children being removed from your custody if appropriate intervention doesn't take place.

Some common risk factors include:

  • Active or current case with the DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA)

  • Experience of foster care (prior or active)

  • Domestic violence

  • Adolescent parenthood/pregnancy

  • History of substance or alcohol abuse

  • Working toward reunification with a child

  • Isolation and/or lack of support

While this program is voluntary, we do require engagement, communication, and commitment of the family for a minimum of six months.

You must meet all three eligibility requirements in order to be enrolled. While we are a Christian-based organization, families of all beliefs are welcome to CFF, and there is no requirement that they engage in faith of any kind while participating.
